Valve Cleaning Procedure

Life Cycle Testing:

  • No or delayed hot water flow.
  • Water hammer during use of hot water.

Cleaning procedure:

  1. Turn off water supply to hot water heater.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the water valve
  3. Remove 4 cap screws from valve body
  4. Remove cover from valve. (Do not lose spring)
  5. Remove spring and diaphragm assembly from the valve body.
  6. Using a paper clip or straight pin clean the port in the diaphragm assembly.
  7. Using a paper clip clean the port in the valve body.
  8. Using a 1/2" wrench, remove the nut from the coil.
  9. Remove the washer, O-Ring, and coil.
  10. Using a 11/16" wrench remove the stem assembly from the cover.
  11. Using a paper clip clean the ports in the cover.
  12. Using a cotton swab, clean the surface of the shuttle.
  13. Reinstall and tighten stem into cover.
  14. Reinstall the coil, O-Ring, washer and nut. Tighten the nut.
  15. Reinstall diaphragm assembly and spring. Orient the port as shown.
  16. Cover assembly and tighten the 4 cap screws.
  17. Reinstall the electrical connector.
  18. Open water valve and inspect for leaks.
